Outdoor UPS (uninterruptible power systems) manufactured by TSi Power are available in a variety of sizes and ruggedized outdoor enclosures, with wide temperature batteries, and are typically semi-customized, build to order units per your application requirements. As some of today's electronics are very small, some outdoor UPS are available designed with extra space inside to house your OEM systems, so that you have one less outdoor enclosure to deal with. Outdoor UPS or outdoor uninterruptible power systems, (also called uninterruptible power supplies, but usually just UPS or battery backup systems), are for where uptime is critical to an operation's mission fulfillment. Typical UPS backup times are from 8 to 20 minutes, and can be as long as 14 hours for some systems. If even longer times are desirable, choose an outdoor uninterruptible power supply with extra battery cabinet flexibility, and/or enough extra reserve batteries to satisfy your UPS requirements.

Choosing the optimal size UPS for your application
Please remember that your actual measured true RMS current/amperage is what will determine your backup time, not your electronics' nameplate ratings, which sometimes are double or even triple what the actual amperage (or watts) is that your systems use. In other words, you're likely to be pleasantly surprised if you base your backup time estimation on your nameplate ratings, but perhaps not too happy if you find out you bought a UPS one or two sizes larger than you really needed. For calculating actual backup time, a good rule of thumb is that if your actual load is 3/4 of the UPS capacity, you usually can double your backup time, and if it is 1/2 loaded, you can usually triple your backup time. You are welcome to call for a recommendation for your application.
These outdoor UPS come with wide temperature batteries, and are
engineered for extreme/severe weather conditions, typically -20° to +60°C
(-4° to +140°F). Even lower temperatures -40° to +60°C (-40° to +140°F) can
be accommodated with an optional battery heater. For high availability power
for extreme mission-critical applications, redundant uninterruptible power
systems, and/or motor-generators or dc-ac inverters are possible by
adding an automatic transfer switch (ATS). Similar to the RAID concept of
redundant arrays of inexpensive hard drives, ATS enables redundant arrays of
inexpensive UPS.
Please note: UPS providing power sources for an ATS unit must provide a pure sine wave, even on battery backup, otherwise the ATS will not recognize it as a power source. Of the units below, all Outdoor-XUPs Series units have pure sine wave outputs, even on battery backup.
Typical outdoor uninterruptible power systems applications are:
- Cellular base stations ~ to keep wireless communications up and running with high availability power.
- Wi-Fi networks ~ to keep the internet up and running in the neighborhood or business area
- CCTV or surveillance camera systems ~ to enable uptime of mission-critical security systems even if the power is cut.
- Research systems ~ to make sure experiments and monitoring systems make it all the way through the study.
Outdoor XUPs Series with automatic voltage regulation
Outdoor XUPs ~ The Outdoor XUPs Series is a UPs system in an outdoor rated enclosure with wide temperature batteries and built-in automatic voltage regulation to handle brownouts and overvoltages within a wide voltage input window, without having to exercise the batteries, thus lengthening battery life. This is a heavy duty uninterruptible power system with a pure sine wave output. It has communications capability, a comprehensive array of status LED's and is relatively light weight.
As these systems are all build to order, please consider if you will need optional battery heaters for arctic or mountain top conditions, and how you will be mounting them, i.e. pole-mount, wall-mount or pad-mount. For OEMs, if your applications utilize very small components and if certain circumstances exist which would preclude you from using your own exterior cabinet, please look at if the units need to be built with enough room to enable your equipment to be housed inside, typically in the upper quadrant of the enclosure. And please call if you need the UPS to be built on a plate for use inside your OEM product.

Battery backup times vary per model from 40 minutes to 1.3 hours fully
loaded, and more than double that when half loaded. These systems are ideal
for perimeter surveillance systems, security gate control systems, LED
traffic light/roadway display systems and industrial remote terminal units
(RTUs).

pad mountable with option heavy-duty mounting kits, though given their heavy
weights, pad-mounting is the preferred method), and come
with heavy-duty surge protection and a wide input voltage window.
Battery backup times vary per model from 45 minutes to 1.5 hours fully
loaded, and more than double that when half loaded. These systems are ideal
for perimeter surveillance systems, security gate control systems, LED
traffic light/roadway display systems and industrial remote terminal units
(RTUs).

These compact size systems come in an outdoor rated NEMA 3R wall mountable
enclosure with dimensions of 20.5" high x 16.5" wide x 9.5"
deep. Units are wall mountable through its standard bolt holes, or pole mountable with optional pole mounting kit, and all come
with heavy-duty surge protection and a wide input voltage window.
Battery backup

WiMax/GSM/CDMA/satellite base stations, perimeter
surveillance systems (CCTV), wireless communications and industrial remote terminal units (RTUs).

weights, pad-mounting is the preferred method), and come
with heavy-duty surge protection and a wide input voltage window.
Battery backup times vary per model from 2.1 hours to 4.5 hours fully
loaded, and more than double that when half loaded. These systems are ideal
for perimeter surveillance systems, security gate control systems, LED
traffic light/roadway display systems and industrial remote terminal units
(RTUs).

These UPS systems have
heavy-duty surge protection and filtering,
under-voltage protection, and wide temperature batteries.
These units come in a NEMA 3R wall mountable enclosure, with dimensions of
16" high x 16" wide x
10"
deep. Units are pole or
pad mountable with optional heavy-duty mounting kits. These have a modified square wave
output when on battery, suitable for most electronics, and thus are less expensive than the
above pure sine wave XUPs units. As such, if you are interested in this particular model,
even though almost all modern electronics will work with this, please
confirm that your systems are modified square wave input compatible (most
all modern switch-mode power supplies feeding modern PCs, etc. are).
Note: these
units are not automatic transfer switch (ATS) compatible. If redundant UPS are needed, please use the
above Outdoor-XUPs Series units which are pure sine wave output even on
battery.
